Crime tips
Tell us about illegitimate or criminal activities within construction, operation and maintenance, transport, and the field of road users and vehicles.
Examples of illegitimate or criminal activities may include the operation of illegal workshops or driving schools, cheating on theory tests, violations of drivers’ hours regulations, and violations committed by contractors and suppliers within construction or operation and maintenance contracts.
You can submit your tip by:
- sending an email to
- notifying us through our encrypted Whistleblower system
- sending your tip by regular mail to Statens vegvesen (the Norwegian Public Roads Administration)
Remember that email is usually unencrypted. If your tip contains national ID numbers, personal data about many people, confidential information, sensitive personal data, or similar, we recommend that you encrypt the email or send the tip through the Whistleblower system.
Processing tips
You will receive confirmation that we have received your tip. All tips will be considered for further follow-up. If we cannot follow up the tip immediately, the information will be registered in our systems and may be followed up at a later date.
If the tip concerns an area of responsibility under a different authority, we will assess the information and, if applicable, forward it to the appropriate authority.
Anonymity
You can choose whether you want to submit your tips anonymously or under your full name. If you wish to notify us anonymously, we recommend that you use the Whistleblower system.
Once you have given us your name, we cannot promise you anonymity at a later date. However, there are confidentiality rules that will protect your identity if necessary.
Access and freedom of information
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) processes tips in accordance with laws and regulations for administrative procedure. This means, among other things, that we file tips and keep records in accordance with the Archives Act.
Information in tip cases is subject to the Freedom of Information Act. This means that the information is open to access unless otherwise stipulated by law or regulations relating to law. Confidential information is exempt from public disclosure. Tips, notifications or similar information from private individuals about violations of the law will often be exempt from public disclosure under other exemption provisions.
E-reg
Relevant tips are processed in the NPRA’s register of crime tips and incidents, E-reg. Tips may contain personal data. See general information about how the NPRA processes your personal data, in our Privacy Statement.
The following information applies specifically to the processing of your personal data in E-reg and your rights in connection with this processing.
The NPRA is obliged to process your personal data in an open manner. This means, among other things, that we should give you brief and understandable information about how we process your personal information when we collect it. Among other things, we should provide you with information about
- the data Controller (the NPRA) and our Data Protection Officer
- the purpose and legal basis for the processing
- any recipients of your data
- how long we store your data
- your right to request that we correct or delete your data or restrict our processing
- your right to object against our processing of your data
- any further processing of your data for incompatible purposes
You have the right to know if you are registered in E-reg and may request access to the personal data that are being processed.

Exceptions to the right to information and access
There are a few exceptions to the right to information and access to E-reg. The right to access does not include data
- that must be kept secret for the purpose of preventing, investigating, uncovering and prosecuting criminal acts
- that would be contrary to obvious fundamental private or public interests
Nor does the right apply if the provision of such information proves impossible, or if the obligation to give access will render impossible or seriously impair the achievement of the objectives of the data processing.
Exceptions may be granted in some other cases. We will consider exceptions in each individual case.

Other rights
You also have the following rights when we have registered information about you:
- You can ask us to correct or supplement information that is incorrect or misleading.
- In certain situations, you can ask us to delete information about you.
- In some situations, you can ask us to restrict the processing of information about you.
- If the processing is based on consent or contract, you can ask us to transfer your data to you or to another data controller.
- If we process your personal data on the basis of our tasks or on the basis of a balance of interests, you can object to this processing.
- You can appeal to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority against our processing of your personal data.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time.
E-reg was developed using Privacy by Design and has a deadline for automatic deletion of maximum 3 years. We only store relevant information, and personal data that is no longer necessary is deleted through continuous quality control.
We will respond to enquiries from data subjects within 30 days.
