Help us improve the application process for assisted theory tests. Do you have a few minutes to answer a survey about assisted theory tests (opens in a new tab)?

You can apply to use an interpreter if you wish to take the theory test in a language other than those in which the theory test is available.

You will have to pay for the use of the interpreter yourself.

You can use an interpreter when you take the theory test for passenger cars, mopeds/moped cars, tractors, motorcycles and snowmobiles.

You cannot use an interpreter when you take the theory tests for ADR, taxi driver CPC and driver CPC, or the theory test for heavy categories (Category C1, C, CE, D1 or D).

The examiner and the interpreter will assist you

When you take an assisted theory test as a special-needs candidate, you take the test in a separate room accompanied by an examiner. The interpreter participates digitally, on-screen. The examiner communicates the questions to the interpreter, so that you can have the questions read out to you in your own language. You reply to the interpreter in your own language, or to the examiner in Norwegian.

You need to attach documentation when you apply

When you apply to take an assisted theory test for special needs candidates, you need to attach documentation. This may be a statement from your doctor, a speech therapist, your school, or a teacher who can confirm your need for assistance.

You must use an approved interpreter

An interpreter-assisted theory test takes place via a computer screen, so that you and the interpreter may be in different parts of the country. You will have to book an approved interpreter yourself, and also pay for the interpreter yourself.
