How to renew your driving licence
You can renew your driving licence and driving entitlements (licence categories) at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (trafikkstasjon) or online.

Driving licences larger than bank card must be renewed before you can drive
From 1 January 2023, you can no longer drive with this type of driving licence. To be able to drive again, you must renew your driving license.

Information for drivers who have diabetes
As from 1 January 2023, driving licences for drivers who have diabetes and take glucose-lowering medication will be valid for a maximum of five years.

If you are approaching or over the age of 80
If you wish to keep your driving licence after you have turned 80, you need to submit a health certificate from your doctor.

Renewal of heavy vehicle categories
You must renew your licence for heavy vehicle categories every five years. From the age of 66, and in some other cases, you must renew it more often.

Renewal of light vehicle categories
The expiry date for your driving licence may have been set because you had poor health or had not completed the night driving course when it was issued.
