Category C1 entitles you to drive a light lorry, among other things. You can tow a trailer of up to 750 kg.

You must be at least 18 years old to get a Category C1 driving licence.

Category C1 does not give you additional rights when you drive a Category B passenger car.

Information about a vehicle or trailer, such as its maximum authorised mass, can be found in the Vehicle Registration Certificate.

Light lorry

You can drive a light lorry with a maximum authorised mass between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg. It can be approved for no more than 8 passengers.

Light lorry with trailer

You can tow a trailer if it has a maximum authorised mass of no more than 750 kg.

If you wish to tow a heavier trailer, you need to get Category C1E.

Tractor

You can drive a tractor that has a maximum authorised mass of up to 7,500 kg. There is no limitation in terms of speed capacity.

You can drive a tractor with a trailer if the tractor has a maximum speed capacity of 40 km/h.

The driving entitlement for tractors is only valid in Norway.

Note: If you acquired a Category T or B driving licence before 1 January 2005, you can drive a tractor with or without a trailer. There are no limitations in terms of weight or speed capacity. In your driving licence, this is marked with code 142.

Motorised equipment

You can drive motorised equipment with a maximum authorised mass of up to 7,500 kg. Examples of motorised equipment include forklifts and wheel loaders.

There is no limitation in terms of speed capacity.

You can drive motorised equipment with a trailer if the motorised equipment has a maximum speed capacity of 40 km/h.

The driving entitlement for motorised equipment is only valid in Norway.

With a Category B licence acquired before 2005 (code 152) when you acquired Category C1 in 2005 or later

You can drive motorised equipment with or without a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of up to 7,500 kg. There is no limitation in terms of speed capacity.

You can drive motorised equipment with or without a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 7,500 kg if it has a maximum speed capacity of no more than 50 km/h.

With a Category C1 licence acquired before 1 January 2005 (code 140)

You can drive motorised equipment without limitations in terms of weight or speed capacity.
