Category C entitles you to drive a lorry regardless of its maximum authorised mass.

You must be at least 21 years old and hold a driving licence for Category B to get a Category C licence.

You may be younger than 21 if you are undergoing or have completed mandatory training for a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

Lorry

You can drive a lorry that has a maximum authorised mass of more than 7,500 kg. It can be approved for no more than 8 passengers. 

A Category C driving licence is also valid for light lorries. In your driving licence, this is marked as Category C1.

Lorry with trailer

You can tow a trailer if it has a maximum authorised mass of no more than 750 kg.

If you wish to tow a heavier trailer, you need to get Category CE.

With a Category C licence acquired before 1 January 1997 (code 132)

You can tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of up to 2,000 kg in Norway. 

You can tow trailed equipment with a maximum authorised mass of up to 3,500 kg in Norway.

Outside Norway, you can tow a trailer or trailed equipment with a maximum authorised mass of no more than 750 kg.

Tractor

You can drive a tractor with or without a trailer. The trailer may have a maximum authorised mass of up to 750 kg. In your driving licence, this is marked with code 143.

You can tow a heavier trailer if the tractor has a maximum speed capacity of no more than 40 km/h.

The driving entitlement for tractors is only valid in Norway.

With a Category T or B licence acquired before 1 January 2005

You can drive a tractor with or without a trailer. There are no limitations in terms of weight or speed capacity.

In your driving licence, this is marked with code 142.

Motorised equipment

You can drive motorised equipment with or without a trailer. Examples of motorised equipment include forklifts and wheel loaders.

The trailer may have a maximum authorised mass of up to 750 kg.

You can tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750 kg if the motorised equipment you are driving has a maximum speed capacity of no more than 40 km/h.

The driving entitlement for motorised equipment is only valid in Norway.

With a licence for Category C1 or C acquired before 1 January 2005 (code 140)

You can drive motorised equipment without limitations in terms of weight and speed capacity.
