See how you can obtain a CPC for Drivers of Emergency Vehicles, or get your CPC from another EEA country approved.

You must also document your need to drive an emergency vehicle during emergency response.

Before you can undergo training for the CPC, you need to

  • meet the health requirements for driving licence group 3 with a CPC
  • be at least 20 years old
  • have held a Category B driving licence for passenger cars continuously over the last two years
  • be able to document employment or voluntary work that requires you to drive an emergency vehicle during emergency response

You need to submit a health certificate to the course organiser, or hand it in or send it by post to one of the NPRA’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Offices (trafikkstasjoner).

A health certificate can be obtained from a doctor. In some cases, you will also need to submit an eyesight certificate from an optometrist or ophthalmologist (eye specialist). Find out from your doctor whether this is necessary.

We need the original version of your health certificate. It must not be more than three months old when we receive it.

Training

You need to complete mandatory training for emergency vehicle driving, and to pass both a theory test and a practical driving test. The training must be provided by an approved course organiser.

Theory test

You can take the theory test for emergency vehicle driving after you have completed the training up to and including Step 3.

The course organiser must have reported your training to the NPRA, and your health certificate must have been submitted.

You need to book an appointment for the theory test

You take the test at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (trafikkstasjon). When you present yourself for the test, you will have to show valid proof of identity and pay the fee for the test.

Practical driving test

You can take the practical driving test for emergency vehicle driving when you have taken the theory test and completed all mandatory training. The course organiser must also have reported your training to the NPRA.

It is the course organiser who books the practical driving test for you. When you present yourself for the test, you will have to show valid proof of identity and pay the fee for the test.

You must pass the theory test no later than three months after you pass the practical driving test. When you have completed your training and passed the tests, you will be issued with a new driving licence with code 160.
