The right motorcycle equipment can help you avoid an accident and prevent injury.

Prevent accidents

Here is how to prevent accidents with the right equipment:                         

  • Wear clothes that keep you warm and dry. In Norway, the weather changes frequently, and when you are cold and wet, you are less attentive. 
  • Wear coloured equipment – especially on your arms and helmet – and ideally a reflective vest. This makes you more visible, and as a motorcyclist you are dependent on other road users seeing you.
  • Make sure you see well: Check that there are no scratches on your glasses or helmet visor, and your helmet should ideally have a sun visor. Scratches may cause disturbing reflections, and a sun visor protects you from the glare of the sun.

Prevent injuries

The right motorbike gear can limit your injuries if an accident should happen.

A complete motorcycle outfit includes

  • a motorcycle riding suit
  • suitable gloves and boots/shoes
  • a back protector or airbag vest to protect your back and upper body
  • a correctly adjusted helmet 

Things to keep in mind when buying motorbike gear

Your motorbike gear should

  • be suitable for motorbike riding
  • protect you against impact injuries
  • not be able to melt, burn or be torn apart

Look for equipment with CE marking. Equipment with CE-marking has been assessed to meet all safety requirements. 

How to test if your helmet is properly adjusted

Put your helmet on and fasten the chin strap. You should not be able to pull the helmet off your head by grabbing the back of your helmet.

Remember that a helmet doesn't last forever. If in doubt, buy a new helmet. Your head is worth it.

Remember that new helmets must be approved.
