Operator's licence test for taxi service
You must pass a theoretical operator's licence test for taxi service before you can apply for a taxi service operator's licence.
You may apply for a taxi service operator’s licence without taking the licence test if you meet one of these criteria
Do you meet one of the criteria listed below? Then you can apply to your county administration for a taxi service operator’s licence via Altinn without taking the licence test.
- You held a taxi service operator's licence before 1 November 2020.
- You have passed the operator’s licence test for goods transport and tourist coach, holds such an operator’s licence, or has managed a transport enterprise continuously in the 10-year period before 4 December 2009.
- You have a diploma or certificate of competence from another EEA country or Switzerland proving equivalent qualifications. The diploma or certificate must be issued by the public authority in the country and approved by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA).
It is only documentation of qualifications from another EEA country or Switzerland that needs to be approved by the NPRA before you apply.
You cannot apply for a taxi service operator’s licence on the basis of a certificate of competence issued before 1 January 2018.
About the operator’s licence test
You can take the operator's licence test for taxi service at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (trafikkstasjon).
You take the test on a computer, and it consists of 35 multiple-choice questions. You must answer at least 30 of the questions correctly to pass.
You have up to 60 minutes to complete the test.
Language
You must take the test in Norwegian, and you cannot use an interpreter.
You can have the questions and answer options read out aloud in Norwegian. For this you should ask for headphones, and select the language Norwegian Bokmål.
When will you get the result?
You will get the result displayed on the screen immediately after completing the test. You can also ask the test manager for a printout of the result. The printout will show which topics and questions you answered correctly and incorrectly.
If you fail the test, the printout may be useful when you prepare to re-sit the test.
How to prepare for the test
There is no mandatory training for the taxi service operator’s licence test.
You need to acquire the knowledge necessary to take and pass the test on your own. Here are some ways to prepare:
